What is the black veil?

The Black Veil is a supernatural mystery-thriller set in Victorian London. It follows Miranda Griffin, a blind archeologist, as she searches for thirteen magical artifacts.

It is a fully voice acted, immersive audio drama with thirteen, 30-minute episodes. The project is intended for mature audiences.

It is an homage to Victorian gothic horror and filled with reimaginings of classic horror characters and other Victorian literature.

Characters

Miranda Griffin

Miranda Griffin is an archeologist and occultist. She is obsessed with finding and studying the Thirteen Treasures of the Island of Britain. These are objects with magical powers tied to Welsh mythology.

While experimenting on the Ring of Invisibility, an explosion killed her husband and lodged the ring in her body. This makes her permanently invisible and by extension blind.

Griffin wears a black mourning veil to cover her condition. She is drawn out of her self-imposed isolation to investigate the Jack the Ripper murders. There, she uncovers that the Ripper is after the other treasures. She must get to them first.

Joseph bell

Joseph Bell is Queen Victoria’s personal physician and a medical consultant for Scotland Yard. He is based on a real person who is said to have inspired Sherlock Holmes.

Bell joins Griffin during the Ripper investigations. He uses his skills as the “Great Detective” to uncover the various mysteries surrounding the treasures.

However, the treasures’ supernatural properties defy his logical mind and Bell finds himself losing for the first time.

Mahomet Singh

Mahomet Singh is a veteran of the Second Anglo-Afghan War. He contracted a deadly illness on the battlefield which plagues him to this day.

He moved to London to study medicine in hopes of finding a cure. Singh joins Bell in his investigations as a chemist. His military expertise is also called upon to fend off supernatural threats.

Singh is haunted by his actions during the war. The looming death of his condition fills him with dread and conflicts with his Sikh faith.

Irene Adler

Irene Adler is a world famous singer and actor. She has been hounded by a stalker who follows her around the world.

Her stalker’s obsessions become insanity when he abuses the power of a treasure. She then joins Griffin’s investigations to stop the remaining treasures from falling into the wrong hands.

Adler’s skills in disguise and subterfuge adds a wildcard element to the team. But she is a target of the Ripper’s larger plans.

Adam Clay

Adam Clay is the true identity of Jack the Ripper. He is harvesting women’s body parts for an occult ritual.

Clay is intelligent, brutal, and near-immortal with the power of his own treasure. He needs the other treasures to complete his ritual and will not hesitate to manipulate and murder anyone to get them.

The Ring of Invisibility

Miranda is called to investigate the Jack the Ripper murders. She discovers that Adam Clay is searching for the Thirteen Treasures. Clay escapes with Griffin’s research on how to find them after murdering her assistant.

The White Hilt

Griffin, Bell, and Singh are on the hunt for the treasures. They encounter Irene Adler and save her from her stalker. They all witness the destructive power of a treasure first hand.

The Ghost train

Griffin investigates ghostly happenings in the London Underground. She stumbles upon a train that carries the souls of the dead.

The sign of four

Singh’s wartime comrades are being assassinated and Singh is next on the list. The truth of his condition is revealed as someone from his past comes for revenge.

The madness of merlin

Griffin is experimented on by a mad scientist. She is shown visions of an apocalyptic future. The treasures’ origins are revealed.

The hound of the baskervilles

Bell must save his friend who is cursed to turn into a werewolf. The team learns that assembling all of the treasures grants a wish.

The final problem

Griffin faces off against the criminal mastermind Moriarty. However, she soon learns that Moriarty is a machine powered by a treasure. In the struggle over it, Griffin falls to her death.

Somnus

Near death, Griffin is sent to purgatory. She is shown her own past and remembers a treasure that can rewrite memories and the corruption it brings.

The demon whale

The team set out to sea to hunt a treasure strapped to an abnormally giant whale.

The miracle of saint delapore

The team investigate the mysterious Delapore family. They learn the Delapores are a cannibalistic cult. Singh has a crisis of faith as his condition worsens.

The loch ness monster

Griffin investigates reports of missing children nearby Loch Ness. The newest treasure reveals that Miranda had rewritten her own memories.

The secrets of diogenes

The team search for a treasure lost to history and explore the catacombs of an ancient organization. Clay steals all of the treasures out from under them.

The thread of life

The team head for the north pole for a final confrontation against Clay before he can fulfill his plan. Griffin struggles with herself over the power of the treasures’ wish.
